Engage, be natural but be clever as well.
That’s my advice for those of you in business who are hoping to enter the world of social media as a way to get their brand noticed.
Social media is just that, it’s about being sociable, about telling someone something they may not have known and about striking up conversations with like-minded people.
What social media isn’t is the chance to sell, sell, sell at every opportunity.
Of course you need to think through what you are doing and be clever. You need to understand the use of hashtags, the use of other twitter handles and how to gain the attention of someone. But that does not mean that every tweet or facebook post should be a shameless plug.
Like all things in life, it may look like a seamless and natural process but behind it there is a great deal of hard work and experience. You are publishing your brand to the world and every time you post people will be making up their mind about you and what you offer.
