‘If you always do what you always did’...you know this famous phrase, and if you don’t then it simply ends, ‘you’ll always get what you always got.’
It’s a call to be prepared for change, for a fresh approach in our thinking and for an element of risk to be undertaken.
This point was subtly made to the SpitfirePR team on a cheeky night out recently. As we approached the bar of a famous pub chain (google the offer, you will find it easily enough) we happened across a coaster with what seemed a jaw-dropping promotion. Simply download the app for the pub group and it will allow you to order your food and your drinks straight at the table as soon as you sit down, and also to make payment across a range of services including paypal.
So there you have it, settle down and in 5 minutes your drinks will magically come to you and then over the course of the next half hour or so starters and mains will appear from the ether.
Terrible idea? Groundbreaking and brilliant? Who knows it may even be irrelevant. But either way it is an attempt to use digital, the power of mobiles and to do something different.
Figures from Hashtag Digital, publishers of digital magazines, show that more than 50% of all reads now come from people using mobile phones (as opposed to tablets and laptops).
Digital is here, social media is dominant and mobiles are dictating the way we do things from reading the news (farewell print) to ordering our food (no wasting time taking orders for a waitress).
