What a strange week, indeed what a strange day I had this week.
I met one person that I hadn't met in over 12 years and then twice in the same day people called me something I am most definitely not.
First things first. I met the editor of the Comet newspaper this week. For someone who has been that person for the past 12 years it was strange to say it let alone do it. But John Francis is now the editor of that lovely title and I couldn't be happier for him. My move away from newspapers and into PR has been a smooth and logical one. There certainly haven't been any tears and soul searching but if a line ever needed to be drawn on my old career then this lunch was it. It was great to discuss all the people we had in common in the 'small world' of the media and it was nice to find out some of the future plans for a product that I will always have a great deal of affection for. I Hope to catch up with John and the team soon but will certainly make it my business to get a copy of HIS title every week.
On the same day someone enquired how things were going and if retirement was treating me well. Retirement? As the director of communications for Jabbercoms, a newly founded communication and design agency that is growing at a rapid speed, I was staggered to hear the word. It also seemed a little dangerous so I made sure I gave a clear explanation of just how busy I am. Sadly just an hour later a family friend also asked me what I thought of retirement. Ask me in the next 10 to 15 years was my reply. While there was never a dull or a slow moment in the world of media, I can testify that in PR it certainly never stops. Comms plan anyone?
Unless I am watching Stevenage FC I will always have my phone handy so please feel free to give me a call on 07539 782979. Darrenisted1 might also be worth a follow on Twitter.
